UpToDate, Inc. ( is an electronic resource of evidence-based medical content that is currently used by clinicians in over 180 countries. The UpToDate editorial team is seeking a board-certified pharmacist, preferably with clinical experience in an academic setting, for the position of Lead Technical Writer – Pharmacotherapy Editor.


• The role requires excellent clinical reasoning and applied pharmacology skills and the ability to organize and present information in a clear and clinically useful manner.
• The position involves reviewing and editing new and existing pharmacotherapy content across multiple specialties and incorporating the information into both UpToDate and Lexicomp, our partner drug information reference.
• This entails identifying and evaluating pertinent medical and pharmacology literature; editing drug monographs for completeness, accuracy, clinical relevance, and clarity; as well as detailed verification of the accuracy of drug therapy recommendations across various formats (e.g. clinical reviews, tables, and algorithms).
• Additional responsibilities include scanning the medical literature and listservs (e.g. FDA, CDC, WHO) for new drug-related developments to be incorporated into the program, acting as a liaison to our partner drug information organizations, improving patient education on medication use, and responding to drug information requests and feedback from subscribers and UpToDate physician editors and authors.


Minimum Education and Experience:

• PharmD or equivalent
• Pharmacist license in one or more states
• The ability to evaluate the medical literature
• Ability to spend 80 to 90% of the work week at UpToDate’s offices in Waltham, MA, and 10 to 20% in a relevant clinical practice setting

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities:

• One or more years of clinical pharmacy experience
• Experience in hospital- or clinic-based interdisciplinary care programs
• Experience in preparing clinical drug use policies, guidelines, and order sets at a major academic center
• Residency and board certification, particularly in pharmacotherapy, critical care, ambulatory care, infectious disease, or cardiology
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational and project management skills including follow-up and follow-through with staff and management
• Strong team-building skills with a continuous drive toward excellence

Travel: Minimal, less than 5%
